A Message from Tim Egan
30 January 2008

Dear Friends, Supporters and Friends I have not yet met;

We are a week away from the Illinois Primary on Tuesday, Feb. 5th. This is an exciting time to be a Democrat as we all take steps to ensure that we elect a President of our own in November.

It gives me great pleasure to announce below our complete list of endorsements and the ones that we have added in the last few hours. Please join these honorable elected officials and respected entities in their support for my becoming the next 43rd Ward Democratic Committeeman.
  • Secretary of State Jesse White, Committeeman of the 27th Ward
  • Former 43rd Ward Alderman Edwin Eisendrath
  • Alderman & Chairman Ed Burke, Committeeman of the 14th Ward
  • Illinois State Senator Tony Munoz, Committeeman of the 12th Ward
  • The Burnham Committee
  • Chicago Fire Fighters Union Local 2
  • International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 726

We are now very proud to add the great Ed Kelly to that impressive list. Mr. Kelly's list of offices and accomplishments are far too numerous to mention here, simply put he is a legend. Mr. Kelly served as Chairman of the Chicago Park District, 47th Ward Committeeman and Alderman, Chairman of the Democratic Party Slate Making Committee and is currently Chairman of Vision Illinois.

Our team and my wife Marlena especially are also proud to announce that we have been endorsed by the Polish National Alliance, which has over a million members.

Last but certainly not least, our candidacy has been endorsed by fellow 2007 43rd Ward Aldermanic Candidate Rachel Goodstein. Rachel is the essence of an "Independent" Democrat and is rightly critical of the problems in Chicago and the Democratic Party. Her endorsement shows her confidence in my ability to blend the great history of the 43rd Ward's independence with the great things offered by our Democratic Party.

This is a long message, I know, but it takes a lot of space when you have to announce a whole lot of support. We have the most impressive slate of endorsements in this race and more importantly, the endorsement of 43rd Ward Democratic Voters. These voters know this is not the 2011 Aldermanic race and my intentions are to unite the Democratic voters in our ward for the greater good.

I thank you for your continued support and please contact me at 312.714.4409 or by email at tim@electegan.com if I can be of assistance in the Tuesday, February 5th primary. And please forward this email to all of those who demand good government and will be supportive of our effort.

See you at the polls!

Tim Egan's Biography

Tim Egan possesses a passion for two things that will make him a successful and respected public servant of the 43rd Ward in the City of Chicago; his family and community involvement. His civic commitment has ranged from youth basketball coach to being the lead organizer of charitable events that benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the IFSA Youth Burn Camp, Special Olympics and many, many others.

As the President and founder of the Chicago Irish Brotherhood, Tim has headed an organization responsible for thousands and thousands of dollars in donations to those less fortunate in the Chicagoland area. In June of 2005, representatives of the C.I.B. handed over their second consecutive check for $10,000 to the kids of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s Camp I Am Me in what Tim describes as the "greatest success to date of an organization dedicated to helping others through friendship."

Tim believes so much in the efforts of the Make-A-Wish Foundation that just signing a check every year wasn't enough effort, so he was appointed to the M-A-W’s Finance Committee in 2005.

As a business professional Tim turned an award winning career in journalism and a stint in the stock market into an unequaled success as a health care administrator. Currently Tim is the Director of Outpatient Services and Managed Care Contracting at Norwegian American Hospital, a community health care center on Chicago’s West Side in Humboldt Park. Tim is responsible for the turnaround of a million-dollar operation that deals with corporations in the community. He is currently head of seven different departments within the hospital and negotiates Managed Care Contracts with major, nationwide insurance companies.

To further his involvement within the Chicago business community, Tim also serves as the Co-Chairman of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Drug Free Workplace Committee.

After a collegiate basketball career, Tim dedicated 15 years of his life as a world traveled club rugby player for the Chicago Westside Condors RFC. Participating in the United States Rugby Football Union National Final Four Championship in 2001 & 2003, Tim served four years as President of a 75-member organization that toured internationally in Ireland, New Zealand, Fiji, Argentina, Brazil, France, Spain & Australia.

Moving onto the fuel of his passion.

Tim and Marlena (formerly Miglin) were married in the scenic town of Westport, County Mayo, Ireland in the early part of 2003. On the day of their wedding overseas, the gray Irish sky subsided long enough for a rainbow to be spotted over Clew Bay at the base of Croagh Patrick. It was a blessing of the great things to come.

Tim and Marlena are the beaming parents of two boys; Wedge Donovan Egan (named after a character John Wayne portrayed in the World War II film classic The Fighting SeaBees) and Tadgh Liam Egan (Tadgh is the ancient Irish name for Tim and Liam is in honor of Marlena’s father Lee).

White and Eisendrath Endorsement

(Continued, click to read article start)

Both Secretary White and Ald. Eisendrath have a long history of political success in Illinois.  Secretary White is on record as receiving the widest margin of victory in any state-wide election in Illinois history. Mr. Eisendrath was 43rd Ward Alderman from 1987 to 1993 and ran for Governor of Illinois in 2006.

The Committeeman’s role can best be described as a “political” position not a governmental job. The responsibility of the Committeeman is to reach out to the voters of the ward and provide information on all things political in terms of candidates and races. Committeeman is an unpaid position and is one of 80 in Cook County.

“Tim is a communicator,” Eisendrath continued. “His tireless community involvement and dedication to helping others makes him the best choice to rebuild the 43rd Ward’s Democratic Organization.”

Meet Tim Egan

Citizens for Egan is a team of 43rd Ward and Greater Chicago residents and business people that want Tim Egan in public office.  Why?  His integrity, experience and passion for the democratic process are hard to find in one person, let alone in a person that wants to serve in elected office.  He's the real deal, and he has our support.

We know Tim and want him to represent the 43rd Ward at all levels of government.  We want you to know him, too, and to vote for Tim Egan for Ward Committeeman on February 5th.

Here's why, in Tim's answers to your questions:
  • What, exactly, is a Ward Committeeman?
  • What qualifies you for the job?
  • Why do you want the job?
  • What will you do?

What, exactly, is a Ward Committeeman?
A Ward Committeeman is an elected, unpaid party position that exists to serve voters' interests.  The Committeeman connects Democratic voters to each other, to issues, and to elections from local right up to national.  The Committeeman also facilitates the voting process via Precinct Captains and the voting officials who manage polling places.

What qualifies you for the job?
A candidate needs to be a Ward resident and a registered Democrat. I live in the Ward with my wife, Marlena, and our two boys and I am an active participant in the political process.  When I ran for political office (43rd Ward Alderman in 2007), I listened to Ward residents and businesses talk about local issues.  I also gained first-hand, inside experience with the political process.  This energized me beyond any expectations.  I know I can improve the connection between people, issues, elected officials and results.

Why do you want the job?
I like that Committeeman is a public service role that serves voters.  In that respect, its unique.  It's also unique in that it touches every level of elected office from Alderman to President.

What will you do?
In a word, serve. Serve voters, serve the community, and serve the Democratic Party.

I'm not waiting to be elected to serve.  I intend to deliver results on three objectives--increased voter turnout, access to information, and strong Precinct Captains--during my campaign.  When I give results, I give the 43rd Ward a reason to vote for me.  I look forward to earning every vote.

Before and after the election, the most important result that I can create as Ward Committeeman is to increase the percentage of registered voters in the 43rd, and increase the number of people that actually vote.  Call it "Voter Apathy" or whatever, the fact is that only 28% of registered voters in our ward voted in the 2007 municipal election.  That's nothing to be proud of anywhere, but in a ward like the 43rd that takes pride in being a highly educated and successful community, it's just wrong. In 2008, I'd like to see the 43rd bring in the highest voter turnout in Chicago.

My conversations with residents tell me that getting clear information about elections is harder than it needs to be.  TV commercials just don't cut it, and reliable information is too scattered.  An effective Ward Committeeman can make a difference on that point.
www.43rdwarddems.com is a step in that direction. The primary purpose of the site is to make it easy for 43rd Ward individuals, families, businesses, organizations to know what's going on and participate in the political process.  Essentially, a Web demonstration of what I do as a citizen and candidate, and will continue to do as Ward Committeman.

My third objective is to strengthen the Precinct Captains' role as a source of party information and voter assistance during election periods.  Year-round, I'd like to support them as neighborhood leaders that facilitate community collaboration.

These are my top three.  There will be many more objectives and roles for me to fulfill as Ward Committeeman, and I look forward to being responsive and effective in every way that I serve.

Egan Updates & Accomplishments

03 October, on Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraising
Dear Tim,

Thank you so much for committing your time and energy into the 2007 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year campaign. While we didn’t win the Man of the Year crown, we did manage to raise over $10,000 for a worthy cause – to fund blood cancer research and patient services. We also contributed to the largest Man & Woman of the Year event in the history of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Illinois. All in, we raised over $400,000 in honor of patient survivors Jake Gadomski & Bridget O’Reilly. You will also notice a nice “Thank You” from the Society in the form of an Ad in this month’s Chicago Magazine. Thank you for personally making it such a huge success. I am still amazed that you were able to balance this as well as the Elect Egan campaign and the demands of a young family at home. You are an inspiration.

Thanks,

Dan Kinsella
