Grace Period Registration and Voting The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners officially opened "grace period" registration and voting on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, to give Chicagoans who are eligible to vote but not yet registered one last opportunity to participate in the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary Election. "Grace period" voting ends Tuesday, January 22, 2008. To participate in the program, you must go to the Board of Elections Headquarters at 69 W. Washington, 6th floor. Unlike voters who registered by the January 8 deadline, "grace period" voters must cast their ballot when they register and cannot vote at their polling place of Election Day. But in reality, the city's take after paying state taxes, operating costs and debt service would be only about $150 million.
